We’re just a bunch of people trying to grow closer to Jesus. Join us.

When we were founded in 1919, St. Mary Magdalen was established to serve the needs of Catholics in the new Southhampton Neighborhood of South St. Louis. More than a century later, we are still strong in our traditions and hope to be a place where all might come to experience the Lord’s love.

This is no small task. It’s the ministry of disciples, those who know the Lord and have a relationship with Him.

Maybe you’re not quite sure where you fit. Perhaps you just moved into the neighborhood. Possibly you’ve lived here longer than the trees that line our streets. Wherever you fall, we need you. Find a category below and go from there.

We’re praying for you!

Beginners.

“Behold, I make all things new!”

Jesus says these words as an invitation. He knows all of us and wants to share His divine life with us here, now.

Don’t worry about the sit, standing, and kneeling quite yet. Focus on getting to know the One who loves you best.

Disciples.

So you have your Our Fathers & Hail Marys down pat. You might even know your Act of Contrition. Great! But living the Catholic faith is so much more than memorization; it’s about a relationship with Christ Jesus.

Those whom He called He named disciples. These followers came from many backgrounds and circumstances. They learned from Jesus and tried to follow Him in thought, word, and deed.

Disciples are open to their next steps. They take a hard look at their lives, see what is lacking, what limits them. They root out sin and serve with an abundant heart. Following Jesus is not for the faint of heart!

Evangelizers.

It all begins with your story, how you fell in love with Jesus. Cradle Catholic or convert, some find this Love—and He changes everything.

St. Mary Magdalen knew the close, personal encounter with Christ because she had an openness to receive. Then she and the other disciples learned from Him, lived as He did.

Evangelizers live out Jesus’ commission in Matthew 28:28, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations!” While they are the smallest group, they are the most critical in any parish. They help make the Gospel known by their witness.
